Corrosion Inhibition Performances of Imidazole Derivatives-Based New Ionic Liquids on Carbon Steel in Brackish Water

Abstract: In this study, imidazole derivative-based new ionic liquids were investigated as corrosion inhibitors. These new ionic liquids (ILs) are 1,3-dipropyl-2-(2-propoxyphenyl)-4,5-diphenylimidazole iodide (IL1) and 1,3-dibutyl-2-(2-butoxyphenyl)-4,5-diphenylimidazole iodide (IL2). The corrosion inhibition effects of two new ILs were observed on carbon steel in brackish water media (1% NaCl solution). Carbon steel coupons were exposed to 1% NaCl solution with various concentrations of ILs. Corrosion inhibition effect… Show more

“…It can be reasoned that the reaction partly happened, and the separation is not optimal in the organic solvent. On the other hand, the organic solvent is many disadvantages if used in glucose conversion industrially, such as flammable, volatile, high volume usage, high operational cost, and high toxicity impact [27]- [30]. Moreover, they give low HMF yield while adding additional challenges at product separation, regenerating, and recycling organic solvent [27].…”

Moreover, they give low HMF yield while adding additional challenges at product separation, regenerating, and recycling organic solvent [27]. The difficulty regarding product separation is tied to low solubility in the aqueous phase, resulting in low HMF yield [27].…”

“…Therefore, research has been actively conducted on environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors [ 12 , 13 , 14 ]. Among them, imidazole and its derivatives, considered “green” corrosion inhibitors with nontoxic properties, have been studied as corrosion inhibitors for iron and copper [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. Many studies have been conducted on the corrosion inhibition performance of imidazole in acidic environments such as in the piping of a petrochemicals plant [ 21 , 22 ].…”

“…In recent decades, the research is more focused towards the development of the "new green corrosion inhibitors", which exhibit better inhibition property with lesser environmental problems [1][2][3][4][5]. The compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids and other natural products as well as synthetic organic compounds with negligible toxicity are considered and used as an organic green corrosion inhibitors [6,7].…”
