Corrosion inhibition of mild steel using poly (2-ethyl -2-oxazoline) in 0.1M HCl solution

Abstract: Effective inhibition of metallic corrosion to prevent its consequent loss is one of the serious apprehensions for industries in the modern world. This paper analyses the application of poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEOX) as an effective inhibitor of corrosion, when it is made to be in contact with the surfaces of mild steel (MS). The sustainability of MS against corrosion in 0.1 M Hydrochloric acid solution in the presence of known concentration of PEOX is assessed by potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) measuremen… Show more

“…The acceptable corrosion inhibition mechanism by organic inhibitors is the adsorption mechanism, whereby an organic molecule substitutes an adsorbed water molecule on a metal surface to form a protective film that decreases the rate at which corrosive species attack the surface [48,49]. It has already been established that the surface of carbon steel is positively charged in a highly concentrated HCl medium [36,50,51].…”

“…Despite this, there is not any proof in the literature that it influences inhibitory efficacy . If Δ N is smaller than 3.6, it is believed that the metal surface’s electronic inhibitor will boost the effectiveness of the inhibition . The ability of an electron to bind Cys.…”

“…The inhibition efficiency ( η T %) was obtained via eqn (4) and also presented. 38,39 η T % = (1 − i inhi corr / i 0 corr ) × 100%where i 0 corr and i inhi corr represent the corrosion current densities for the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid solution without and with different concentrations of benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone derivatives, respectively.…”
