Corrosion behavior of stainless steels under heat transfer condition in simulated solution of dissolver for FBR fuel reprocessing.

Abstract: Corrosion tests have been carried out in a simulated solution under heat transfer condition, in order to investigate the influence of boiling and NOx gas injection on the corrosion of austenitic stainless steels for the dissolvers of FBR fuel reprocessing plants.A simulated solution consisted of 4N nitric acid containing several non-radioactive ions. A specially designed heat transfer test cell could provide the precise control of heat flux. The test results are as follows:(1) Corrosion rates of both base meta… Show more

“…With respect to NO, Hayashi investigated the influence of NO injection on the corrosion rate of SS310 Nb (25?2%Cr, 20?4%Ni, 0?2%Nb and 0?013%C) in a solution to simulate that used for fuel reprocessing (4 N HNO 3 /8?5 g L 21 V z5 /1?2 g L 21 Ce z2 ). 32 The highest corrosion rates were found in NO free solution. NO injection decreased corrosion rates in boiling solution by more than a factor of 10, from 0?5 g m 22 h 21 (600 mm year 21 ) to 0?02 g m 22 h 21 (20 mm year 21 ) (Fig.…”
