“…It is worth noting that, for CO 2 , the decay rates of the echo, τ E , and of the alignment revivals, τ R , are close to that associated to the dissipation of the dipole autocorrelation function [26], τ D (as can be obtained through τ D = (2πc < γ B >) −1 , where γ B is the average pressure broadening coefficient in cm −1 /amagat in the spectral domain). Indeed, experiments yield τ D = 51.2 ps.amagat for pure CO 2 [27] and 82.3 ps.amagat for CO 2 -He [28,29], while direct calculations lead to very close values of 51.3 ps.amagat [26] and 79.6 ps.amagat [29], respectvely. The finding that τ E ≈ τ R ≈ τ D for CO 2 and CO 2 -He is in apparent disagreement with the recently measured value τ E =13 ps.agamat for pure OCS gas [20], about 2.5 times smaller than the experimental values τ R =32.4 ps.amagat [30] and τ D =31.4 ps.amagat [31,32].…”
