Correlation Study on Physico‐Chemical Parameters and Quality Assessment of Kosi River Water, Uttarakhand

Abstract: Present work deals with the assessment of physico-chemical parameters of water samples of Kosi river at Kosi sampling station during 2004 and 2005 in pre monsoon, monsoon and post monsoon seasons. Statistical studies have been carried out by calculating correlation coefficients between different pairs of parameters and t- test applied for checking significance. The observed values of various physico-chemical parameters of water samples were compared with standard values recommended by WHO. It is found that an … Show more

“…A significant correlation was observed between the water pollutants. This observation is in harmony with the previous studies (Bhandari and Nayal 2008;Waziri and Ogugbuaja 2010). The contrast of water pollutants in Teesta as compared to Rani Khola can be due to the construction of a number of small-to-medium hydel projects in Teesta such as in Dikchu area (DFEWM 2012).…”

“…The significant difference ( < 0.01) in COD is due to the significantly higher values recorded in station 1 than in stations 2 and 3, meaning that there could be discharge of industrial effluents upstream of the river. For effective maintenance of water quality through appropriate control measures, continuous monitoring of a large number of quality parameters is essential, but since regular monitoring is a very difficult and laborious task, an alternative approach based on statistical correlation has been used to develop mathematical relationship for comparison of physical and chemical parameters in recent years [26,27]. The spatial variations in the level of significant correlation of the physical and chemical parameters among the stations and [28,29].…”

“…The statistical analysis has been carried out by Pearson's correlation coefficient between different pairs of water quality parameters of river water to develop the significant correlation among the parameters (Bhandari and Nayal 2008;Joshi et al 2009). The data analysis yielded an R-value, which is a correlation representing the linear relationship between the data pairs.…”
