Correlation studies on pathological changes in brain with neurotransmitters and behavioural changes in Balb/c mice

Abstract: Aim: To determine the plasma neurotransmitters simultaneously and to find any correlation with pathological changes in the hippocampus and Purkinje cells and their relation with behavioral changes in Balb/c mice. Methodology: In the present study, both sexes of Balb /C mice were divided into two groups (4 males and 4 females; n = 8): Both the groups were given a single dose of either saline or sodium valproate (400mg kg-1) respectively through subcutaneous injection on PND 14. Behavioural tests were conducted… Show more

“…Because serotonin and dopamine cannot be transported across the blood‒brain barrier, it is difficult to assess behavioural and functional changes in OP-poisoned patients 37 . Although according to previous reports, abnormal levels of neurotransmitters or neurotransmitter metabolites in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or plasma of patients have been interpreted as indicating abnormal brain functions, with examples including high or low plasma serotonin levels as markers for psychopathology and suicidality 28 , 38 , 39 . Hence, in this study, observations of these low plasma serotonin levels might be indicated as markers for psychopathology and suicidality.…”

“…Additionally, VPA inhibits the reuptake of GABA into presynaptic neurons and enhances GABA release, further augmenting GABAergic signaling. These combined actions on GABAergic transmission help stabilize neuronal activity, reducing seizure activity and mood swings associated with bipolar disorder [15] . In addition to its effects on GABA, VPA also modulates the glutamatergic and dopaminergic systems.…”
