Correlation between the Length of Ovarian Ligament and Ovarian Torsion: A Prospective Study

Abstract: Study Objective: The study aimed to evaluate whether there is an association between the ovarian ligament length and ovarian torsion. Design: This is a prospective cohort study. Design Classification: II.2. Setting: The study was conducted in the gynecology department of a university affiliated hospital. Intervention: We measured the length of the ovarian ligaments during laparoscopy. Patients: A total of 56 women were recruited, of which 28 women were operated for ovarian torsion (torsion group) and 28 others… Show more

“…In a prospective cohort study, Tamir et al . found a correlation between longer ovarian ligament length and ovarian torsion . The correlation between AT and longer ovarian ligament is an independent risk factor, unrelated to the presence of ovarian mass.…”

“…A possible physiological explanation for the association of twist degree to recurrence risk might be the degree of freedom of the adnexa after de‐torsion. Tamir Yaniv et al 17 . found correlations between ovarian ligament length and adnexal torsion.…”

“…Attempts of minimising inaccuracies were made by manual validation of individual medical files and by the preliminary exclusion of patients with missing or incomplete data. We lack data regarding ovarian ligament length and Fallopian tube length, a possible risk factor for adnexal torsion, 17 as this is not regularly recorded in our department. Furthermore, our study includes only women with an operatively diagnosed adnexal torsion.…”

“…The normal length of the right ovarian ligament is 2.2 ± 0.6 cm, whereas the length of the left ovarian ligament is 2.3 ± 0.8 cm. [ 9 ] Tamir Yaniv et al . [ 9 ] found a correlation between increased ovarian ligament length and ovarian torsion, which is the basis of ovarian ligament plication or oophoropexy in cases of ovarian torsion.…”

“…[ 9 ] Tamir Yaniv et al . [ 9 ] found a correlation between increased ovarian ligament length and ovarian torsion, which is the basis of ovarian ligament plication or oophoropexy in cases of ovarian torsion. Chances of recurrence of torsion are higher if earlier torsion had occurred in the absence of adnexal mass.…”
