The introduction of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) as a structural material in the fib Model Code 2010 represents an important advance for this technology. Nevertheless, it makes even more relevant the concern about the knowledge of parameters for quality control. In this context, the introduction of new fibres in the market should be followed with simple and reliable test methods to perform its evaluation. One of the major problems is the determination of fibres mechanical properties through tests that require the use of yarns, which are not easily available for the consumers. Other concern is related to difficulties associate to the execution of the FRC evaluation through the EN 14651 three-point bending test (3PBT) for regular quality control. This test was chosen by the fib Model Code to parameterize the FRC post-crack behaviour but requires more complex equipment and careful execution. This paper presents an experimental investigation using composite AR-glass macrofibre, performing the fibre characterization directly in the macrofibre and post-cracking behaviour measured with 3PBT test together with the double punch test (DPT). The tensile strength measured directly in the composite glass macrofibre showed good results, but the Young's modulus procedure needed further implementation to increase accuracy in deformation measurements. The results also indicate an excellent correlation between the 3PBT and DPT, what makes possible to perform regular quality control of FRC in a simpler mode, even when composite glass macrofibre was used.

For this reason, technological alternatives such as fibers are used to overcome for these limitations. Steel fibers are already widely used and have a Brazilian standard for their specification. Glass fibers are another material traditionally used in reinforcing cementitious matrices, such as façade panels, known as GRC or GFRC. However, there are no Brazilian standards for these fibers' characterization. The publication of the European Model Code, fib Model Code 2010, presented a significant step for FRC technology with the introduction of guidance for design structural elements with fibers. The behavior of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) depends on the characteristics of both the concrete matrix and fibers. Previous studies have concluded that the number of hooked ends increases the contribution of steel fibers to the tensile performance of concrete. ACI 318 code, MC10 fib code and RILEM TC 162‐TDF standard permit the use of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) for example, the minimum shear reinforcement made of deformed steel bars in flexure‐controlled elements. Other investigations have demonstrated the suitable performance of SFRC in shear‐controlled members and for seismic rehabilitation applications. It has become apparent that the adequate use of SFRC depends on the knowledge and prediction capabilities of its tensile performance. The results of three‐point bending tests on SFRC beams using the test procedure established by the European standard EN‐14651 are presented and discussed herein. Tests were executed with 20 standardized beams made of concrete with a nominal compressive strength of 24 MPa and hooked end steel fibers with an aspect ratio of 65 were applied. Variables were the fiber dosage (0, 20, 40, 60 kg/m3) and the number of fiber hooked ends (1, 1.5, and 2). A numerical model aimed at estimating the residual flexural tensile strength of the SFRC is developed. The proposed model was calibrated using a database of 256 tests, 20 from this study and the remaining 236 from 15 other studies.
