Correlation between SYNTAX Score and Pattern of Risk Factors in Patients Referred for Coronary Angiography in Cardiology Department, Menoufia University

Abstract: Objectives: The role of SYNTAX (SX) score in assessing the complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) is well established. In this study we investigate the relationship between conventional risk factors of CAD with its complexity using SX score. Methods: The study consisted of 52 patients with CAD who were admitted to Cardiology Department-Menoufia University Hospitals for elective coronary angiography. The overall SX score was calculated prospectively using the SX score algorithm. Then comparison was done be… Show more

“…Another positive correlation was present between SYNTAX score and smoking (p = 0.001); this was found in several studies, among them El Kersh et al [22], where a statistically significant correlation between age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and smoking with SYNTAX score was noticed (p < 0.05).…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate that CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc-HSF offers better predictive accuracy than GRS 1.0 in determining the CAD severity. We believe that this finding could be attributable to the fact that the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc-HSF score is a model that includes a combination of several factors related to the CAD severity, such as HT, DM, hyperlipidemia, positive family history, HF, stroke, and history of CAD and CAD-equivalent vascular diseases, compared with GRS 1.0 (31)(32)(33)(34)(35) . Indeed, DM, hyperlipidemia, HF, HT, and vascular disease were found to be significantly related to intermediate-high SSI.…”
