Background: Several factors contribute to a student's academic performance. Studies have examined the direct impact of student-related factors and the broader influence of social and economic factors. Objective: To identify the important factors influencing the academic performance of Master's level students at the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University (TU). Materials and Methods: Primary data of 251 master’s level students was collected with a questionnaire adapted and developed from similar studies. The data was collected using convenience sampling. In addition to demographic and categorical questions, five-point Likert scale questions were also used. Data analysis involved fitting a multiple linear regression (MLR) with the identified significant independent variables. The goodness of fit of the model was evaluated to assess the accuracy and reliability of the final model in explaining variations in students' SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average). Results: The study revealed that students' motivation, study habits, and communication skills significantly influenced their SGPA. Study habits showed a coefficient of 0.118 (p < 0.001), indicating a positive and significant relationship with SGPA. Student motivation had a coefficient of 0.19 (p < 0.001). Similarly, Higher levels of motivation were linked to improved SGPA outcomes. Communication skills exhibited a coefficient of 0.086 (p < 0.001) at a 5% level of significance. All these factors had a positive coefficient which means students better on these factors on an average will tend to have better academic performance. Conclusion: Study habits, motivation, and communication skills were found to have a significant effect on students’ SGPA. Therefore, we can conclude that at the master's level in IoST, TU, the primary determinants of students' SGPA are their characteristics such as their motivation, study habits, and communication skills.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sudden shift from face-to-face lectures to online learning created barriers to students' learning process. These issues have prompted researchers to explore the perceived educational barriers in the new normal, especially among nursing students. This study aims to identify the perceived educational barriers of the new normal among the 200 nursing students at the University of Bohol. This is a quantitative-descriptive research design aided with a self-constructed questionnaire distributed using the online platform, following the ethical guidelines. The tool was pilot-tested and garnered a Cronbach's result of 0.721, which passes the acceptability standard. The gathered data were subjected statistically. Results have shown that respondents have been moderately affected by personal and technological barriers. Socioeconomic barriers were present but rarely affect the respondents. The study concludes that the demographic profile of 200 nursing students did not fully influence their perceived educational barriers. These perceived barriers only moderately affect the respondents; it reveals that distractions, lag devices due to multitasking, and noisy environments primarily affect the students.

El rendimiento académico es el resultado de las diferentes etapas del proceso educativo, en el que convergen los esfuerzos de alumnos, profesores y padres para mejorar el rendimiento escolar de los estudiantes. Es importante destacar que cuanto mayor es el nivel educativo de los padres, mejor es el rendimiento académico de los hijos. Con la dedicación de tiempo para apoyar y controlar los deberes de sus hijos. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar la incidencia del nivel educativo de los padres en el rendimiento académico de los alumnos en la asignatura de inglés. Para ello, se realizó una investigación correlacional-descriptiva basada en un enfoque cuantitativo para las variables descritas. Para la investigación se utilizó una muestra representativa de 76 alumnos y padres. Se construyeron dos encuestas con 4 secciones y 16 ítems basados en la escala de Likert. Para los padres (datos generales-datos generales-estudios realizados-apoyo al alumno-profesor). Para los alumnos (rendimiento académico en inglés y su percepción-apoyo de los padres y seguimiento-apoyo de los padres al profesor). Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el paquete estadístico SPSS 22. En los resultados, se encontró que la encuesta tiene un coeficiente de fiabilidad para el rendimiento académico, 0,812; y para el nivel educativo de los padres 0,818 respectivamente. Asimismo, se encontró la existencia de una incidencia significativa entre las variables. Además, se encontró una falta de implicación de los padres en el desarrollo educativo de sus hijos en inglés. En conclusión, el nivel educativo de los padres influye directamente en el rendimiento académico de los alumnos, ya que su desconocimiento de la lengua inglesa no les permite prestar el apoyo necesario en el desarrollo de las actividades del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Así como en las tareas complementarias destinadas a apoyar y fortalecer las habilidades en inglés en el hogar.
