Correlation Between Prevalence of Allergic Rhinitis and Certain Diseases

Abstract: Allergic rhinitis is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the upper respiratory tract, and its symptoms include watery rhinorrhea, sneezing, itching and nasal congestion. There have been quite different results for the prevalence of allergic diseases in different parts of world detected by surveys. However more amazingly, the international patterns of allergic disease prevalence cannot be explained by the current perception of the etiology of these conditions. Differences have been usually thought t… Show more

“…Our results showed only a Mild, non-significant increase in number of AE in mold sensitized patients in the Season 1 (winter) than in Season 4 (33.63% vs. 28.32%, p > 0.05), when a higher count of Cladosporium was observed with max count in January: 14.623/m 3 (not shown in the table). Cladosporium in general exceeds all other airborne biological particle in the atmosphere [45]. It is a predominant genus in temperate climate [13, 30], as well as in the region.…”

“…Alternaria species is the best and most investigated outdoor mold associated with allergy [45]. It is the only species that may be independently associated and responsible for severe epidemic AE [9, 39] in temperate climate conditions, especially in the harvesting season and during thunderstorms.…”

“…Rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, smell disorders, adenoid hypertrophy, lymphoid hyperplasia in the nasopharynx, obstructive sleep apnea, Eustachian tube dysfunction, otitis media with effusion, atopic dermatitis, asthma, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic cough, laryngitis, and accompanying gastroesophageal reflux are the main comorbid conditions of AR ( 283 , 430 ). Apart from their benefit in comorbid conditions affecting the upper respiratory tract such as nasal polyposis, smell disorders, adenoid hypertrophy, lymphoid hyperplasia in the nasopharynx, Eustachian tube dysfunction, and otitis media with effusion, their benefits are also investigated in disorders of lower airways, including asthma.…”

“…Uyku bozukluğu, yorgunluk gibi semptomlar sonunda dikkat eksikliği gelişebilmektedir. İlginç olarak, dikkat eksikliği hiperaktivite bozukluğu olan hastaların da %75'inde AR semptomları izlenmekte ve %69'unda DPT pozitif bulunmaktadır (30). Herhangi bir allerjik hastalığa sahip olmanın Kawasaki hastalığı geliştirme riskini (1.4 kat) artırdığı bilinmektedir (31).…”
