Correlation between KLK6 expression and the clinicopathological features of glioma

Abstract: Aim of the studyWe measured the impact of changing KLK6 expression levels on the pathological grade of gliomas and on proliferation rate, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis in the U251 glioblastoma cell line.Material and methodsThe expression of KLK6 in 35 brain glioma tissues and adjacent noncancerous tissues was measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the relationship between KLK6 expression and pathological grades was analysed.ResultsThe KLK6 expression in U251 cells was… Show more

“…KLK6 (zyme/protease M/neurosin) appears to be down-regulated in serum and tissues of Alzheimer's disease patients and may be involved in amyloid metabolism [143, 144]. Moreover, recent studies also correlate lower expression of KLK6 with increased glioma growth [145]. Whereas in case of glioblastoma, a highly malignant type of glioma tumor with different physiology then glioma, KLK6 is responsible for reduction in cell sensitivity to cytotoxic agents, including staurosporine and cisplatin, and current standard treatments of radiotherapy, or temozolomide, alone or in combination.…”

“…Our results revealed that MRGs, including GLDC and KLK6 may affect DUs by mediating angiogenesis and re‐epithelization. GLDC is a pivotal enzyme in the glycine lysis system, whose expression is downregulated in gastric cancer cell lines and tissues, and the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells can be inhibited by methylation of GLDC (Min et al, 2016); 41 KLK6 is a secreted serine protease that downregulates mRNA expression in gliomas and can inhibit tumor growth (Lou et al, 2014) 42 . The suggestion that GLDC and KLK6 may inhibit wound healing of DUs is consistent with our findings.…”

“…Human KLKs take part in multiple physiological processes, including skin desquamation, tooth enamel formation, kidney and brain function, and synaptic neural plasticity ( 6675 ). Also, recent studies demonstrate a role for some KLKs during viral infections.…”
