Correlation between Fermi surface transformations and superconductivity in the electron-doped high-TcsuperconductorNd2xCexCuO

Abstract: Two critical points have been revealed in the normal-state phase diagram of the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Nd2−xCexCuO4 by exploring the Fermi surface properties of high quality single crystals by high-field magnetotransport. First, the quantitative analysis of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect shows that the weak superlattice potential responsible for the Fermi surface reconstruction in the overdoped regime extrapolates to zero at the doping level xc = 0.175 corresponding to the onset of superconductivi… Show more

“…4, along with a fit yielding m * = 0.43 ± 0.05 m e consistent with both FFT spectrum amplitudes (red data) and analyses at fixed magnetic field (black data); also shown are ±1σ error bars to the best fit (dashed lines). Here F is comparable to that observed in NCCO with x = 0.17 (F NCCO ≈ 250 T) in studies of bulk crystals [21] that show evidence for a quantum critical point at a doping x = 0.145. R H is comparable to that seen in x = 0.17 PCCO films (≈ 0.8 × 10 −9 Ω-m/T) grown and oxygen reduced using other techniques [26,33].…”

“…At 2 K R H = 0.9×10 −9 Ω m/T; assuming a single parabolic band yields a carrier density per CuO 2 layer of n 2D = 4.2 ×10 18 m −2 or 0.66 carriers per Cu. As has been seen for near-optimal doping in both PCCO thin films [25][26][27] and bulk crystals of Nd 2−x Ce x CuO 4 [21], R H changes sign with temperature, consistent with a multi-band FS and possible onset of competing order. (As R H also changes sign with x near optimal doping, the simplistic analysis of the Hall effect discussed here will necessarily be incomplete.)…”

“…Besides traditional metals, quantum oscillations of magnetoresitance (Shubnikov -de Haas, SdH effect) and magnetization (de Haasvan Alphen effect) have recently proved extremely useful in exploring more complex topical materials such as cuprate [4,5] and iron-based superconductors [6][7][8], topological insulators [9][10][11], heavy fermion compounds [12][13][14], and organic charge-transfer salts [15][16][17]. Here we report on an experimental study of the high-field interlayer magnetoresistance of the layered conductor κ-(BETS) 2 Mn[N(CN) 2 ] 3 , demonstrating the power of the SdH effect in exploring Fermi surface properties of a quasi-two-dimensional correlated electronic system.…”

“…[1][2][3] In the last decade, following their first observation in cuprate high-temperature superconductors, [4] they have been extensively used to investigate the electronic structure of cuprates, both hole- [5] and electrondoped, [6] as well as in Fe-based superconductors. [7][8][9][10][11][12][13] Probably most surprising are the data for the underdoped yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) compounds YBa 2 Cu 3 O 6+δ ( [4,[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] reviewed in [5,[22][23][24]).…”
