Correlation analysis of land surface temperature and topographic elements in Hangzhou, China

Abstract: In addition to human activities, this study found that topography is also an important factor affecting land surface temperature (LST). In this paper, based on Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS remote sensing images, a radiative transfer model was adopted to retrieve the LST, and a maximum likelihood method was used to remove artificial environmental interference factors, such as water bodies and built-up lands. This paper aims to analyze the influence of topographic factors, such as elevation, slope, aspect and shaded relie… Show more

“…This is because plants and waterbodies transmit water to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration [57], which increases humidity and reduces heat in the city [58]. The DEM and slope were negatively correlated with UHIs at a significance of 1%, which is consistent with the results reported by Peng et al [32]. In general, with an increase in altitude, the temperature gradually decreases, and high altitude areas tend to have fewer human activities [59].…”

“…10 b), except the Washington where croplands and forests showed a positive LST anomaly. So, the large variability in the LST anomalies over Europe and North America during the period of the lockdown can be also ascribed to LULC types, which depend upon the associated geographical conditions like, elevation, slope and aspects ( Peng et al, 2020 ). However, significant changes in the magnitude of the negative LST anomalies with respect to LULC are observed between the cities, supporting the complex associations between LST anomalies and LULC types.…”

“…The results depict an increasing trend of NDBI values for Delhi; almost no trend for Dhaka and decreasing trend for KV ( Figure 15). The spatio-temporal variation in the NDVI and NDBI values might be the consequences of the local climatic conditions [55] of the study area. The spatio-temporal variation over the different topographical regions has been well established in the study domains.…”
