Abstract: Introduction. As a result of portal hypertension (sequestration of platelets in an enlarged spleen) and liver failure (decreased production of thrombopoietin in the liver) in liver cirrhosis, thrombocytopenia develops, which is associated with the risk of periprocedural/perioperative bleeding complications.
