“…Our result for the standard molar enthalpy of combustion of p-iodobenzoic acid, −(3154.2 2 1.3) kJ·mol −1 , is in very good agreement with the only old value (9) using classical combustion calorimetry, recalculated by Smith (10) and reported by Cox and Pilcher (11) as −(3153.12 4.2) kJ·mol −1 . We conclude that in the case of substances containing iodine the CRMT rocking calorimeter is also useful for accurate determination of the enthalpy of combustion using only a small mass of substance; {5E(m/mg)E10} for each combustion developing a heat of about 0.1 kJ.…”

“…The standard massic energy of combustion of 2-iodobenzoic acid, measured by the static-bomb method, has been reported previously by Smith: (22) −(12767.521.7) J·g −1 . The value reported in this paper and derived using the same method: −(12770.721.3) J·g −1 , is very close.…”

“…(5) The good agreement obtained between the values of c H o m determined by the static and the rotating-bomb methods, for the two isomers of iodobenzoic acid, suggests that the static method would probably lead to results as accurate as could be obtained by the rotatingbomb method. However, before definite conclusions can be presented, it is desirable to extend this investigation to other organo-iodine compounds.…”

“…This value is also in agreement, within the uncertainties associated, with the other literature values. (5,6) We recommend the adoption of 4-iodobenzoic acid as a test substance in bomb combustion calorimetry of organo-iodine compounds.…”
