Tekstynais paremti vertimų kalbos tyrimai yra viena ryškiausių vertimo studijų krypčių. Nors Lietuvoje kai kuriose srityse dominuoja vertimai, o ne originalūs lietuvių kalba rašyti tekstai, vertimų kalba kol kas dar nėra sulaukusi pakankamo Lietuvos tyrėjų dėmesio. Tyrimų stoką gali lemti tai, kad iki šiol neturėta reprezentatyvių lyginamųjų vienakalbių tekstynų, nors tekstynų lingvistikos metodas jau seniai taikomas įvairiems lietuvių kalbos tyrimams. Atsižvelgiant į vertimų mastą rašytinėje lietuvių kalboje šiame straipsnyje siekiama pagrįsti vertimų kalbos tyrimų svarbą Lietuvoje, apžvelgti šia tema atliktus darbus ir pristatyti lyginamąjį vienakalbį tekstyną, sudarytą iš grožinės ir mokslo populiarinimo literatūros tekstų. Straipsnyje remiamasi deskriptyviųjų vertimo studijų bei tekstynų lingvistikos tyrėjų darbais, taip pat paaiškinami pagrindiniai terminai, kai kurių terminų vertimai pateikiami pirmą kartą. Kuriamo lyginamojo originalios ir vertimų lietuvių kalbos tekstyno (ORVELIT) tikslas -reprezentuoti lietuvių vertimų kalbą leksinių-gramatinių ir sintaksės ypatybių tyrimams. Viso tekstyno apimtis apie 4 mln. žodžių; originaliosios ir vertimų kalbos grožinės literatūros ir mokslo populiarinimo kiekvieno iš patekstynių -apie 1 mln. žodžių. Atrenkant tekstus stengtasi subalansuoti tekstyną pagal kūrinių turinio, autorių ir vertėjų įvairovės, lyties, leidyklų ir chronologinių rėmų kriterijus. Tikimasi, kad parengtas šaltinis paskatins gausesnius vertimų kalbos tyrimus, turės mokslinę ir praktinę vertę. ORVELIT lyginamuoju tekstynu bus galima naudotis kaip įrankiu, padedančiu suvokti tarpžanrinius tekstų reikalavimus ir ypatumus, atlikti tam tikrų leksinių vienetų paiešką, įvertinti vertimų ir originalių tekstų skirtumus.REIKŠMINIAI ŽODŽIAI: lietuvių kalba, vertimų kalba, lyginamieji vienakalbiai tekstynai, tekstynais paremti vertimo tyrimai, vertimo universalijos, ORVELIT.

We describe a set of bilingual English-French and English-German parallel corpora in which the direction of translation is accurately and reliably annotated. The corpora are diverse, consisting of parliamentary proceedings, literary works, transcriptions of TED talks and political commentary. They will be instrumental for research of translationese and its applications to (human and machine) translation; specifically, they can be used for the task of translationese identification, a research direction that enjoys a growing interest in recent years. To validate the quality and reliability of the corpora, we replicated previous results of supervised and unsupervised identification of translationese, and further extended the experiments to additional datasets and languages. 11 TEDx are TED-like events not restricted to specific language. We could not find sufficient amount of TEDx German talks translated to English. 12

Levelling-out and register variation in the translations of experienced and inexperienced translators: a corpus-based study

Explicitation, simplification, normalisation and levelling-out, the four features of translation proposed by Baker (1996), have attracted considerable attention in translation studies. Although the first three have been studied extensively, levelling-out has been the subject of less empirical investigation. Furthermore, there are no studies to date that have investigated the extent to which levelling-out occurs in translations by experienced translators and inexperienced translators. In this study, levelling-out is operationalised in terms of register. It is hypothesised that less register variation will be apparent in translations by inexperienced translators and, in keeping with the features of translation hypothesis, it is predicted that select linguistic features will demonstrate less register variation in translations than in non-translations. A custom-built corpus was compiled to test these hypotheses. While some light is shed on how translation expertise contributes to register sensitivity and the distribution of certain features across different registers, little evidence could be found for levelling-out as register variation is evident in the translation corpora.
