“…Previous studies have posited that multi-stakeholder initiatives are conducive to the viability of MNEs in overseas markets owing to their ability to reduce liabilities of foreignness and origin in host countries. However, limited knowledge exists about the role of multi-stakeholder initiatives in MNEs’ performance during internationalization, despite the critical importance of global CSR activities to the success of MNEs in international business (Napier et al , 2023). This study pioneers the investigation of the impact of multi-stakeholder initiatives on international business and firm profitability, contributing to the literature on internationalization and performance.…”

“…Next, we explore the types and measurements of CSI. Considering that environmental, social, and corporate governance are important aspects in evaluating corporate sustainability (Gillan, Koch, & Starks, 2021; Kolbel, Busch, & Jancso, 2017; Napier, Knight, Luo, & Delios, 2023), CSI, as a behavior that (potential) undermines corporate sustainability (Lin-Hi & Muller, 2013), is also principally reflected in these three aspects. Specifically, the environmental aspects of CSI behavior refer to the environmentally damaging behavior of firms, such as damage to climate, water resources, and air (Afrin, Peng, & Bowen, 2022; Jin, Cheng, & Zeng, 2020; Zhang, Ren, Chen, Li, & Yin, 2020).…”

“…According to Carroll (2021), the CSR discourse focused mainly on businesspeople going beyond monetary interest (Jiang, 2021) or legal requirements (Mišura et al, 2018) by promoting social activities such as volunteering (Dropulić & Čular, 2019). Over the years, a series of research have been developed to understand the subject from different contexts, thus generating a proliferation of approaches and theories (Prutina, 2016;Torugsa et al, 2012) such as corporate social performance (e.g., Alonso-Martínez et al, 2020;Crișan-Mitra et al, 2020;Garcia et al, 2021;Napier et al, 2023); corporate social responsibilities (e.g., Han et al, 2020;Kurt, 2022;Zhou et al, 2021); corporate citizenship (e.g., Akbari & McClelland, 2020;Kruggel et al, 2020); business ethics (e.g., DeTienne et al, 2021;Ermasova, 2021); corporate governance (e.g., Koutoupis et al, 2021;Naciti et al, 2022;Zaman et al, 2022); environmental management or sustainable development (e.g., López-Concepción et al, 2022;Lu et al, 2021;Ruggerio, 2021); among other topics.…”
