Corporate governance is a global issue that has caught the interest of many researchers and business owners. However, there is scanty literature that is done on the influence of corporate management on educational institutions’ financial stability and in particular the Adventist Church in Tanzania. The secondary schools owned by the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church in Tanzania have faced a financial crisis and this study investigated the church’s corporate governance and the financial stability of these educational institutions in Tanzania. The study adopted qualitative research design, used purposive sampling technic to collect information form the fifteen institutions, used the questionnaire to collect data from the respondents. The study used frequency statistics for the analysis with the help of SPSS version 26. The findings show that poor administration, inefficient and unprofessional boards, nepotism, bad treatment of employees, not addressing audit reports, poor customer care, poor infrastructure, and improvement of the government secondary schools have contributed to the financial crisis of these institutions and the church is advised to adhere to good corporate governance to bring remedy to the situation.

In the context of higher education, active Church involvement in Curriculum Management and Quality Assurance plays a crucial role in the 21st century. A Concurrent triangulation research design employing mixed methods approach was used in this study to obtain findings from 471 (93% of respondents) from four universities selected using stratified, purposive, and simple random selection techniques. The questionnaire, interview guide, observation check list and documentary analysis were used to collect data. The findings indicated that among the respondents of the study, 62.2% were males and 37.8% were female; with 73% possessing master's degree while 11% with a PhD. The Anglican Church of Uganda (ACOU) involvement in curriculum management and quality assurance was low, with M: 1.999 SD: 1.084. It was recommended that the Province of the ACOU should empower and support the provincial directorate of Education and Commission for higher education to get fully involved in Curriculum Management and Quality Assurance through routine monitoring and support supervision of her universities of higher learning.

Financing Higher Education: Who Pays, Who Benefits, and Who Should Pay for University Education in Uganda

This paper analyses the existing modes of financing a university education in Uganda. Different parties, including the state, the student (household), donors, and the institution itself, are financing university education in Uganda. However, students are the primary source of funds for university education. Over the years, the fees charged to university students have been increasing to the extent that they are now becoming unaffordable to many students considering the current average annual household income. While the government is involved in funding university education, the level of involvement is unsatisfactory besides being discriminative. The existing government sponsorship scheme indirectly favours students from affluent families and denies access to poor students. The existing loan scheme focuses only on STEM courses and ignores students whose potentials are in the arts sector. However, in doing all this, the state uses taxpayers' money. Indirectly, poor households finance the education of students from affluent families while students from low-income families must struggle on their own. Therefore, it is submitted in this paper that the existing funding mechanism for university education in Uganda should be revisited and made fair, sustainable, and inclusive. The paper reviews literature relevant to the topic by adopting a general literature review methodology. It highlights the involvement of different partners that finance university education in Uganda and the benefits of university education. The paper submits that a better funding model for university education should involve the student, the university, and the state should take the leading role.
