Coronary artery bypass surgery in the second decade of life

Abstract

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an autosomal dominant disorder of lipid metabolism. These patients develop coronary artery disease in the second or third decade of life, but patients requiring a coronary artery bypass in the second decade of life is rare. We report our experience with management of two patients with FH who presented to us in the second decade of life. Both patients required a coronary artery bypass grafting. The second patient underwent a patch aortoplasty for supra valvar aortic stenosis along with a coronary artery bypass.
