“…In India, corneal scarring caused by infection, trauma, and malnutrition is the predominant indication for corneal transplant surgery, 27,28 accounting for 66% of surgeries in one series. 29 Similarly, in Zimbabwe, scarring from measles, keratitis, or trauma comprised 39.3% of PK cases. In our study, corneal scar and adherent leukoma together comprised 72.6% of all cases.…”

“…8,10,16,17,29,33 Serdarevic et al 15 reported that all of their patients achieved BCVA X6/12. They hypothesised a correlation existed between the preoperative dioptric power of peripheral recipient corneas and the postoperative central power of grafted donor corneas and used videokeratoscopic analysis of peripheral recipient corneas to determine IOL power.…”

“…The 5-year graft survival was 85% for both groups, which compares well with published triple procedure survival rates of 69-100% over variable follow-up periods. 5,[8][9][10][11]16,18,22,23,[29][30][31][32][33]42,46 The 2007 Australian Corneal Graft Registry 47 reported 1-and 5-year graft survivals of 89 and 78%, respectively, for triple procedure. Sequential surgery has been associated with increased graft endothelial cell count loss, and graft failure as high as 13-21%.…”

“…RB Vajpayee and others (2001) in their study reported 70% cases with postoperative visual acuity of 6/12 or better at 1 yr. follow up. Sridhar MS and others (2000) 21 reported 40% of patients with visual acuity better than 20/40 at last check up.…”
