Corn production for silage intercropped with forage in the farming-cattle breeding integration

Abstract: Corn cropping for silage, due to the plant material exportation, intercropping with forage provides greater ground cover and straw formation for the Direct Planting System (DPS) continuity. The objective of this study was to evaluate corn production for silage in DPS intercropped with four forages (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu, U. ruziziensis cv. Ruziziensis, Panicum maximum cv. Tanzânia and P. maximum cv. Áries). We applied three sowing methods (in row together with corn fertilizer; by no-till sowing simult… Show more

“…cv.

“…Panicum maximum (Jacq.) stands out among forage grasses, being used to form pastures in tropical regions of Brazil and other countries of America and Africa, because it is tolerant to drought, and as a result, the demand for seeds of the cultivar 'Mombaça' has been so expressive (Reynoso et al, 2009;Canto et al, 2012;Mendonça et al, 2014;Melo et al, 2016a).…”

“…Despite the benefits resulting from de presence crop residues on the soil, in the region of Campos Gerais, in Paraná state, Brazil (one of the most important dairy basins and the most productive one in Brazil (Paraná, 2016), cattle farmers remove the plants from the soil in the vegetative phase for the production of silage. In these regions, corn (Zea mays) cultivated during the summer is the most used crop for the production of silage (Mendonça et al, 2014). However, in order to keep the soil covered and to obtain extra income during the corn off-season (winter), it is common to sow forage, from which brachiaria (Urochloa spp.…”

“…Brachiaria spp.) is the most used one in tropical climates (Mendonça et al, 2014), and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. ), the most common one in soils of temperate regions (Petean et al, 2010;Auler et al, 2014).…”
