“…Even the taxonomic status of this species has changed several times [22,23] and it has recently been suggested that it belongs to a completely new genus [24]. However, infection studies where Norway spruce seedlings were inoculated with N. fuckeliana using a map pin technique [25] resulted in canker wounds, resin flow, and shoot dieback, similar to observations of infected Norway spruce trees in the field [1].…”

[112][113][114][115]. Schroeter [21], Bresadola [116], Zaleski et al [26], and Mańka [117] reported the ascospore sizes, thus their specimens could be identified as N. fuckeliana; data by Eichler [20] could be included here, because the specimens from Międzyrzec Podlaski were studied and described by Bresadola [116].…”

“…Corinectria spp. C. González & P. Chaverri (González & Chaverri, 2017) are forest pathogens recorded in the Northern Hemisphere, mainly present in Europe as wound invaders of different conifers, such as Picea spp. and Abies spp., and in California, North America, as producers of stem cankers in drought‐stressed Abies (Huse, 1981; Roll‐Hansen & Roll‐Hansen, 1980; Schultz & Parmeter, 1990; Vasiliauskas & Stenlid, 1998).…”

“…The genus Corinectria was recently described by González and Chaverri (2017) to differentiate the species present in the Northern Hemisphere from that present in Chile, that is C. constricta C. González & P. Chaverri. In the case of the New Zealand species, the pathogen produces the same symptoms and damage; however, it is not clear whether the fungal species is the same due to the lack of good‐quality samples and DNA sequences for morphological and phylogenetic analyses, respectively (González & Chaverri, 2017). Therefore, the name Corinectria fuckeliana (C. Booth) C. González & P. Chaverri is still used (González & Chaverri, 2017) for the species present in New Zealand.…”
