“…S7 and Table S3 demonstrated that the experimental data was in good agreement with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models with the R 2 of 0.9986 and 0.9978, respectively. The maximal adsorption capacity derived from Langmuir isotherm model was 46.3 mg/g, which was similar with Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @PSS/PDDA/MWCNTs [37] and much larger than Fe 3 O 4 @β-CD composites [39]. Hence, Fe 3 O 4 /mSiO 2 -Me-PTSA is a very efficient adsorbent to remove PCBs from large volumes of aqueous solutions.…”

“…MNPs are covered by a silica layer bonded β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to construct core-shell Fe3O4@β-CD composites for removing PCB28 and PCB52 in aqueous solutions with promising results [257]. The removal of BPA is inhibited in the presence of NOM.…”

“…(33, 34) Thanks to these specific host-guest interactions, β-CD has been widely used as a surface modifier of IONPs specifically for the capture of some hydrophobic organic contaminants, such as PCBs, and has gained interests in environmental remediation. (3537) In the past year, Wang et al (38) developed a core-shell magnetic nanoparticle consisting of a magnetite core and a silica bonded β-cyclodextrin layer (Fe 3 O 4 @ β-CD) capable of adsorbing PCB-28 and PCB-52 in aqueous solutions, as shown in Figure 1C. The adsorption capacities of Fe 3 O 4 @ β-CD for the PCB congeners were studied in water and incubated for 24h, after which the nanoparticles were isolated with a magnet and UV absorbance measurements were used to determine the concentration of the residual solution.…”
