Core–Shell MOFs@MOFs: Diverse Designability and Enhanced Selectivity

Abstract: Metal–Organic frameworks (MOFs), especially MOF-based composites, performed an irreplaceable role in the material fields. By virtue of the tailorability of MOFs, core–shell MOFs@MOFs composites with diverse designability and enhanced selectivity have inspired infinite scientific interest. This review will highlight an up-to-date overview of the designability and enhanced selectivity of core–shell MOFs@MOFs composites, covering the synthetic strategies of an epitaxial growth method, postsynthetic modification, … Show more

“…Because of such advantages of MOF-on-MOF, related studies have been extensively done, from the initial works on synthetic strategy development to recent works demonstrating this unprecedented synergistic effect. 9,[12][13][14][15] To summarize these active research fields, several previous reviews have briefly introduced MOF-on-MOF under hierarchical MOF architecture. [16][17][18][19] Recently, Liu et al 15 and Xu et al 20 provided comprehensive information regarding MOF-on-MOF, categorizing synthetic approaches and applications, in particular.…”

[16][17][18][19] Recently, Liu et al 15 and Xu et al 20 provided comprehensive information regarding MOF-on-MOF, categorizing synthetic approaches and applications, in particular. In this review, however, we specifically focus on the fascinating potential applications of MOF-on-MOF, and in the actively studied fields of separation, catalysis, and sensing (Scheme 1).…”

“…The MOFs-on-CPs heterostructure not only combine the advantage of each component but also tune their unique properties and break the limitations of individual material, which may provide more possibilities to enhance their properties and improve their application. [11][12][13][14][15] The well-designed MOFs-on-CPs heterostructure, having mismatched cell lattices, can introduce abundant lattice defects, distortions, and dislocations. The lattice defects, distortions, and dislocations may cause the charge redistribution and heterogeneous electrons, exerting effects to the performance of lithium ion storage.…”
