Core level photoemission from (111)-type InAs surfaces

Abstract: The InAs(111)2~2 and ~n~s (i i i) l x l surfaces have been studied with high resolution core level spectroscopy. For the ~n~s (i i i) l x l surface both the In 4d and the As 3d core levels display strong surface core level shifts, while for the InAs(l11)2x2 surface only the In 4d level shows a detectable surface shift. The results indicate that the ~n A s (i i i) l x l surface is relaxed, with atom layer displacement extending to subsurface layers. Unexpectedly, we find no surface shifted anion core level for … Show more

“…The spectra contain two contributions; a bulk peak (B) and a surface shifted peak (S). The surface peak is shifted 0.30-0.31 eV to lower binding energy, in agreement with literature [22,23]. The relative intensity of S is 53% on the clean surface, and it decreases smoothly to 16% at 2.6 Å Pb coverage.…”

“…On the clean surface the surface shift is 0.31 eV to higher binding energy in good agreement with previous results [19,22,23]. The surface-to-bulk intensity ratio is different from our previous paper on InAs(1 1 1)-O [19], but similar to the papers by Andersson [22] and Palmgren [23].…”

“…1(b) we present As 3d spectra from the InAs(1 1 1)A surface. This core level peak can be fitted with only a bulk component [15]. The As 3d 3/2 binding energy is 41.55 eV.…”

“…The core level spectra were numerically fitted and the parameters for the fitting procedure were, for the clean InAs, taken from Andersson et al [15], as well as the identification of bulk and surface peaks. In their experiment the sample was rotated 60°from normal emission, thus giving higher surface sensitivity, which allows for the distinction of bulk and surface peaks.…”
