Cordycepin induced MA-10 mouse Leydig tumor cell apoptosis by regulating p38 MAPKs and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways

Abstract: The p38 MAPKs play important roles in the regulation of balance between cell survival and cell death on the development of various cancers. However, the roles of p38 MAPKs regulating apoptotic effects on Leydig tumor cells remain unclear. In the present study, we showed that cordycepin (3′-deoxyadenosine) selectively induced apoptosis in MA-10 mouse Leydig tumor cells through regulating the p38 MAPK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. Cordycepin reduced viability in MA-10, TM4, and NT2/D1 cells, but not cause cel… Show more

“…In this study, we postulated that NTS decreased SP1, and then decreased P27, activated MAPK pathway, finally inhibited cell apoptosis in EECs in vitro. In addition, many studied showed that PI3K also involved in the process of cell apoptosis [61], thus the PI3K protein level was also detected in this study, and the result showed that NTS decrease it in EECs. All these results suggested that NTS played very important and complex functions in the EECs apoptosis.…”

“…Cordycepin has been considered as an effective antioxidative agent with protective effects on respiratory system (14), nervous system (15), endocrine system (16), and tumor metastasis (12, 17, 18). Based on the characteristics of cordycepin, we hypothesized that cordycepin might also have effect on cartilage metabolism.…”

“…It has been reported that cordycepin possesses various biological functions, including antioxidant, hypolipidemic, and anti-inflammatory activities (10, 11). A recent study has confirmed that cordycepin may induce leydig tumor cells apoptosis via MAPK/P38 signaling (12). However, the role of cordycepin in cartilage reconstruction, especially in chondrocyte hypertrophy, remains unclear.…”

“…However, it is rare on the investigation of antitumor effect of cordycepin on testicular tumor. Previously, we have reported that cordycepin could induce MA‐10 cell apoptosis by activating p38 MAPKs and inhibiting PI3K/AKT signaling pathways . However, the downstream signaling consequence of cordycepin‐induced p38 activation still needs to be further revealed.…”
