On the contrary, the elevated incidence of 13 S in the Yorouba ethnic group ( 13 S 0.117 over 13 C 0.068) is probably due to their origin from Nigeria where the Hb S is prevalent on Hb C (Kulkarni and Jekeme 1986). Since Hb SS and Hb SC die at a very young age (Tattah and Ekere 1975), more children are born to compensate for their this loss, maintaeining the proportion between 13 S and 13 C in this ethnic groupniae.…”
