Cord Blood Levels of IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 May Be Early Predictors of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia in Preterm Newborns Small for Gestational Age

Abstract: Introduction: Various cytokines have been associated to the occurrence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm neonates. AIM: To establish an association between cord blood cytokines and BPD, so that they could be used, in clinical practice, as early markers of BPD. Material and methods: Preterms less than 30 weeks gestational age, were analysed by ELISA microassay for venous cord blood IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and IL-10, and compared between the BPD and non-BPD groups. Results: One hundred and fifty ne… Show more

“…IL-6 is a typical proin ammatory cytokine which plays a functional role in a number of physiological in ammatory and immunological processes [34]. It has been supported that there is a close correlation between the dysregulation of IL-6 with moderate and severe BPD in preterm infants with a small gestational age [35]. PlGF overexpression contributes an exaggerated in ammatory state [36].…”

“…Результаты исследования Rocha G. и соавт. (2012) демонстрируют существование ассоциаций между повышенным уровнем IL-8 и низким содержанием IL-6, IL-10 в пуповинной крови детей с БЛД среднетяжелой и тяжелой степени [18].…”

“…14 SGA infants have high inflammatory cytokines such as IL-8, but no significant changes in IL-6 or TNF-α. 15 High IL-8 may be correlated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia severity in SGA infants, 16 and cytokines may also be related to prenatal infection. 17 The current study is the first to examine changes in cytokine levels with i.v.…”
