Corchorus olitorius stem as corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in sulphuric acid

Abstract: The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 0.5M H 2 SO 4 solution was studied in the presence of Corchorus olitorius stem extract as inhibitor. Phytochemical analysis results confirmed the presence of organic constituents such as Alkaloids, Tannins, Glycosides, Saponins and Flavonoids which made the Corchorus olitorius stem extract act as a good inhibitor. The highest inhibition efficiency as observed from the experimental design was 93.29%, with process levels of 4 days, temperature: 60 C and inhibitor concent… Show more

“…As a side comment and for completeness' sake, it is worthy of mention to note that a recent trend in the use of organic inhibitors is the burgeoning use of green inhibitors utilizing plant extracts for corrosion control (Oyewole et al 2021(Oyewole et al , 2022(Oyewole et al , 2023. These environmentally-friendly extracts have been copiously deployed for the inhibition of metal corrosion in different acidic media (Elabbasy et al 2023;Iorhuna and Ayuba 2023;Nesane et al 2023;Othman et al 2023).…”

“…There are various modern investigations on the corrosion-inhibitive behavior of MS in acidic medium with different stem extracts containing alkaloids, tannin, polyphenolic compounds, carbohydrates, etc. The reported literature includes stem extracts of Sida acuta [5] Ficus racemose [6], Costus Afer [7], Ocimum sanctum [8], Opuntia [9], Corchorus olitorius [10], Olive [11], Cissus populnea [12], Dissotis theifolia [13] showed exceptional inhibiting activity towards MS corrosion in acid medium. These plant extracts emerged as effective corrosion inhibitors due to the existence of complex organic compounds in their con guration.…”

“…C. olitorius biproduct/waste has recently been utilized to treat the corrosion of oil and gas pipes. 23 To summarize the findings, it is worth noting that there has been relatively little effort devoted to examining polysaccharides. C. olitorius has not been studied for EOR applications in the oil and gas industries.…”
