“…Sin embargo, también hay investigaciones que afirman que el rebrote de las plantas de mayor tamaño se puede ver reducido a causa del mayor grosor de la corteza (Khan y Tripathi, 1986). En cuanto a la altura de corta, se observó que si se hacía a una altura de 5 centímetro el número de rebrotes era menor que a 10 cm, mientras que si se cortaba a una altura de 25 cm, el número de brotes se mantenía pero estos en su mayoría procedían de la parte media y baja del tocón en vez de brotar en la parte superior (Ashby et al, 1993) La producción de un número elevado de rebrotes, es una de las características fundamentales que se le pide a un cultivo energético leñoso, si bien hay que tener en cuenta que si hay un número muy elevado de pequeños tallos se obtendrá un mayor porcentaje de corteza en la biomasa final. Por este motivo, algunos trabajos señalan que es conveniente seleccionar genotipos que no generen un número excesivo de brotes (Iriarte, 2008), mientras que otros no consideran esta problemática importante ya que el número de brotes tras las sucesivas cortas va descendiendo, principalmente a causa de la competencia por la luz (Weiner and Thomas, 1996), quedando solamente los denominados tallos dominantes (Laureysens et al, 2003;Al Afas et al, 2008).…”
