Copper(II) complexes of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate

Abstract: Copper(II)-pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) complexes having the general formula, [Cu(PDTC) 2 ], [Cu(PDTC)X 2 ] ) (where X = Cl ) , I ) , CN ) , SCN ) ) and [Cu(PDTC)(en)] + (en = ethylenediamine) have been prepared and characterized by IR spectroscopy and by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA and DTA). The IR data suggests that coordination of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) takes place through the two sulphur atoms in a symmetrical bidentate fashion. The results of thermal analysis are consistent with the … Show more

“…The complex showed bands around 1516 cm –1 , which was attributed to the partial double bond character of C–N stretching vibration. A strong band at 1004 cm –1 , ascribed to C–S stretching vibration, suggested a bidentate coordination between the tin and the dithiocarbamate ligand . A band observed at 546 cm –1 was ascribed to the Sn–C bond and, thus, supports the presence of the organotin(IV) moieties .…”

“…Table 2 shows that (N-CSS) of PDTC is shifted to higher frequency upon coordination, consistent with an increase of carbon-nitrogen double bond character. The (N-CSS) of these complexes is in the range observed for the other PDTC complexes of Pd 2þ ([Pd(PDTC) 2 ] ¼ 1500 cm À1 ) [46] and Cu 2þ ([Cu(PDTC) 2 ] ¼ 1500 cm À1 ) [47]. A band near 1000 cm À1 belongs to (-CSS) and is indicative of bidentate dithiocarbamate [48].…”

“…In the spectra of all biosorbents, ( O H) stretching at about 3400 cm −1 , ( C H) stretching at 2856 and 2924 cm −1 and ( C H) stretching and bending vibrations at about 1460 and 1385 cm −1 were observed, respectively. It was reported that the absorption bands between 1580-1450 cm −1 and 1060-940 cm −1 in the FTIR spectrum of dithiocarbamate compounds are indicative of C N of N CSS and CSS groups, respectively [23]. New strong and sharp peaks observed at about 1431 cm −1 and between 1060 and 954 cm −1 in the spectrum of biosorbent after modification are strong evident for the modification of S. albus with APDC successfully.…”
