Copper(ii) assembling with bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amidate and N,N′-2,2-phenylenebis(oxamate)

Abstract: We herein present the synthesis and X-ray structures of five copper(II) complexes of formulae [Cu(bpca)(CF3SO3)(H2O)]·H2O (1), [Cu(bpca)(Phpr)(H2O)]·3/2H2O (2), {[Cu(bpca)]2[Cu(opba)(H2O)]}·H2O (3), {[Cu(bpca)]2(H2opba)}2·6H2O (4) and [Cu(bpca)(EtH2opba)]n (5), where bpca = bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amidate, Phpr = 3-phenylpropionate, CF3SO3(−) = triflate (anion of the trifluoromethanesulphonic acid), H4opba = N,N′-1,2-phenylenebis(oxamic acid), and EtH3opba = monoethyl ester derivative of the H4opba. 1 and 2 are … Show more

“…Previous magnetostructural studies of double oxo(carboxylate‐oxamate)‐bridged dicopper(II) complexes showed that smaller values of θ led to weak antiferromagnetic interactions . In the present case, θ = 98.69(8)°; this value is in the region of θ values for which antiferromagnetic interactions in the range –2.36 [ θ = 102.8(1)°] to –0.80 cm –1 [ θ = 95.4(1)°] were observed …”

“…Thus, the Co II atom likely assists the hydrolysis of the TPymT triazine ring. 32 The hexamminecobalt(III) salts might further react with bpca. Destabilization of the triazine ring upon coordination is likely the main reason.…”

“…This is similar to the situation encountered in hexamminecobalt(III) salts, which are formed upon reacting cobalt(II) salts with NH 3 , 28 and NH 3 is known to be released during the hydrolysis of TPymT. 29 This is mere speculation of course.…”
