Copolymerization of Ethylene with Propylene of a Soluble Catalytic System (C5H5)2TiCl2–Al(C2H5)2Cl in an Ethyl Chloride

The homopolymerization of vinyl chloride and its copolymerization with ethylene in the presence of catalytic systems composed of transition metal organic compounds such as (C5H5)2TiCl2, vanadium, cobalt, nickel and chromium acetylacetonates, Ti(On‐C4H9)4 in combination with Al(C2H5)3, Al(C2H5)2Cl and Al(C2H5)Cl2 is studied. The effects of the solvent, e.g. heptane, toluene, benzene, ethyl chloride, and dichloroethane‐1,2, on the process of copolymerization in the presence of the catalytic system Ti(On‐C4H9)4/Al(C2H5)3‐nCln and on the physicochemical properties of the resultant copolymers are considered.

The morphology of ethylene-vinyl chloride copolymers containing up to 8 wt yo vinyl chloride obtained in various copolymerization coiiditions is studied. Fundamental morphological units of the copolymers were determined, arid one of the most probable mechanisms responsible for their aggregatiori in the course of the syuthesis is considered. This made it possible to demonstrate the possibility of controlling the copolymer bulk density. The supermolecular structure of the copolymers is mainly affected by the solvent used as copolymerization medium.
