Coplanar waveguide to coplanar strips-fed active leaky-wave antenna

Abstract: A new active coplanar waveguide (CPW) to coplanar strips (CPS)‐fed microstrip leaky‐wave antenna is developed, which is integrated with a Gunn diode as an active source. The CPW–CPS balun is used to excite the first higher order mode of the microstrip leaky‐wave antenna. The active leaky‐wave antenna has a maximum EIRP of 20.4 dBm at 9.759 GHz. The Gunn oscillator frequency is controlled by tuning the Gunn dc bias, and the beam scanning is demonstrated. The measured scanning angle agrees with the prediction; i… Show more

“…Since the introduction of leaky-wave antennas in the 1940s, they have attracted considerable attention from scholars due to their unique radiation characteristics and excellent beam-scanning abilities. In recent years, research on leaky-wave antennas has witnessed significant growth, resulting in the emergence of various forms of such antennas [1][2][3][4][5]. Leaky-wave antennas offer not only high efficiency but also advantages like low profile, compact size, and simple feeding structure [6][7][8][9].…”

“…A CTIVE integrated antennas [1] are widely used in applications such as the mobile system, the satellite communication, and the personal communication system (PCS). Recently, leaky-wave antennas (LWA's) have become popular and there is a growing interest in active leaky-wave antennas used as frequency-scanning elements [2], [3]. Leaky-wave antennas possess the advantages of low-profile, fabrication simplicity, easy matching, narrow beamwidth, and frequencyscanning capability.…”
