Coordinated allocation and control of voltage regulators based on reactive tabu search

Abstract: This paper present a coordinated allocation and control of Step voltage regulators (SVRs) and Static Var Compensators (SVCs) for voltage deviations in case distributed generations are installed in distribution networks. In the proposed method, the reactive tabu search (RTS) with multiple structures and functions has been applied to the coordination. Firstly, the locations of SVRs are selected optimally and secondly the tap positions of SVRs are optimized by the RTS. Finally, the locations of SVC are decided to… Show more

“…Some papers about the DSEP problem have independently addressed the construction of circuits and substations [5], [6], [8], [10], [13], [15]- [20], [23], and [24]; the allocation of capacitor banks [25]- [28]; the allocation of voltage regulators [29]- [31]; and the joint allocation of capacitor banks and voltage regulators [32]- [35]. The construction of circuits and substations, and the installation of capacitor banks were considered in [14].…”

“…As shown in section 3, the most appropriate placement for a statcom device in a rural distribution network is at the end of the line as shown in Fig 24. The power rating of the statcom is calculated using the equations (6), (7), and (8) and a 1.3MVAR is used in the simulated scenario in order to maintain the voltage level of CT8 within limits. It can be seen that the STATCOM is able to maintain the voltage of the line within the established voltage limits and the dynamic response of the voltage control is better than with the SVR.…”

“…Especially, as one of the solution to the rising voltages due to the surplus energy of supplied power from PV, applying SVR has been considered. The optimal allocation and operation methods of SVR have been reported in the past [1][2][3][4][5]. However, it is thought that the load such as demand and PV generators would be further introduced in distribution network from now on.…”
