Cooperative Protocols Design for Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Multi-hop Routing

Abstract: Wireless ad-hoc networks can experience significant performance degradation under fading channels. Diversity through space has been shown to be an effective way of combating wireless fading with the multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technique by transmitting correlated information through multiple antennas. The virtual MIMO technique, which allows multiple wireless stations with single antenna to form a virtual transmission array, is shown to be a viable solution from several recent studies. In this paper,… Show more

“…The basic objective of the selection of relay nodes is done by using traditional algorithms by considering either link quality or receiver signal strength. Multihop routing provides an optimal utilisation of resources and increases throughput (Kim et al, 2009;Boukerche et al, 2011;Lin et al, 2008;Kim et al, 2012). In wireless medium identified routes uses various links to forward the packet.…”

“…In [14], the authors have proposed two MAC protocols (Repetition coding with maximal ratio combining MAC (MRC -MAC), Space time coding MAC(STC MAC)) and two routing protocols (Cooperative Routing Protocol (CRP), Enhaced CRP (E-CRP)). MRC-MAC is the MAC protocol to support repetition coding with MRC at the physical layer.…”

“…In , the selection of relaying candidates are implemented by using Hello messages. By exchanging the Hello messages, a set of nodes, which are the common immediate neighboring nodes for both of the source and destination, are selected as the relaying candidates.…”

“…In , for a link between the source s and the destination d, the source considers the immediate neighboring nodes of both s and d as relaying candidates. The source maintains a list that contains the candidates' MAC addresses and their link qualities to s and d. The source uses a metric γ r , as shown in Equation , γnormalr=minSNR()s,ri,SNR()normalri,dto sort the candidates, where SNR (s,r i ) and SNR (r i , d) denote the SNR between the link of s– r i and r i – d, respectively.…”
