Cooperative Caching in Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: Terminal's latency, connectivity, energy and memory are the main characteristics of today's mobile environments whose performance may be improved by caching. In this paper, we present an adaptive scheme for mobile Web data caching, which accounts for congestion of the wireless network and energy limitation of mobile terminals. Our main design objective is to minimize the energy cost of peer-to-peer communication among mobile terminals so as to allow for unexpensive Web access when a fixed access point is not a… Show more

“…To overcome the limited information availability in MANET MANETs, Sailhan et al [19] proposed a cooperative caching scheme to increase data accessibility by peer-to-peer communication among MTs, when they are out of bound of a fixed infrastructure. It is implemented on top of a wellknown ad hoc routing protocol, called Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP).…”

“…One effective and widely-used method to improve system performance is to cache frequently accessed data objects at the data source (gateway node) and a group of caching nodes [1,2,3]. Thus, other mobile users can access the cached data objects nearby, with reduced query latency and traffic overhead.…”
