Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control for Connected Autonomous Vehicles Using Spring Damping Energy Model

Abstract: Cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) has been widely considered as a potential solution for reducing traffic congestion, increasing road capacity, reducing fossil fuel consumption and improving traffic safety. Traditional CCAC methods rely heavily on the vehicle-to-vehicle communications to achieve cooperation. However, in the real-world scenarios, unreliable communication will degrade CACC to adaptive cruise control, which may bring negative influences on safety (i.e., increase the risk of collisions). … Show more

“…This can improve safety and reduce congestion, as vehicles can move more smoothly and efficiently through traffic. Cooperative merging [95,96] is a related application that involves coordinating the movement of vehicles entering or exiting a highway or other roadway. By coordinating the merging and diverging manoeuvres of multiple vehicles, this technology can reduce congestion and improve safety.…”

“…Motivated by commonly observed collective behaviors of animals, distributed control on formation tasks aims to coordinate a team of unmanned vehicles to form a desired geometric pattern through local information. Cooperative control methods have been widely used in practical robotic applications, such as collaborative manipulators [1], object transportation [2], search and rescue [3]- [5], ecosystem hacking using microrobot swarms [6], exploration in unknown environments [7], autonomous vehicle platooning [8]- [10], etc. This motivates researchers to develop advanced coordination strategies for multi-vehicle systems.…”

“…Moreover, it is important to consider the planning criteria regarding the controller requirements to guarantee the performance of the quadrotor during the coverage mission in dynamic environments [19], [20]. However, many studies didn't make an interactive combination of a planning scheme and a control strategy to develop an integrated management unit to confront uncertainties and disturbances while it is determining the required trajectory for the coverage mission.…”
