Cooligomerization of Sulfur Dioxide with Octene-1

Abstract: The benzoyl peroxide initiated cooligomerization of sulfur dioxide with octene-1 in the presence of bromotrichloromethane was investigated. Alternating copolymers and oligomers having 1 : 1 composition with respect to sulfur dioxide and octene-1 were isolated from the reaction mixture. The oligomers were fractionated by thin-layer chromatography and the molecular weight, IR spectra and end group analyses of the fractions determined.
