Convertible Operation Techniques for Pump Stations Sharing Centralized Reservoirs for Improving Resilience in Urban Drainage Systems

Abstract: Pump stations prevent backwater effects from urban streams and safely drain rainwater in urban areas. Urbanization has increased the required capacity of centralized reservoirs and drainage pumps; yet, their respective designs are based on the runoff of the target watershed at the time of design. In Korea, additional pump stations are constructed to supplement the insufficient capacity of centralized reservoirs and drainage pumps. Two pump stations in the same drainage area share centralized reservoirs, and th… Show more

“…Then, the dispersed distribution is converted from the cumulative distribution. Finally, the synthetic rainfall event is obtained by applying the amount of rainfall to the dispersed distribution [26][27][28][29][30]. The cumulative distribution is used for the Huff distribution as a type of regression equation.…”

“…Second, the cumulative distribution is converted to the dispersed distribution. Third, the amount of rainfall is applied to the dispersed distribution, and the synthetic rainfall event is obtained [16][17][18][19][20]. The type of regression equations for the Huff distribution is cumulative distribution.…”

“…Selection of the first flooding node in urban drainage systems was used to select the monitoring node for the operation of drainage facilities, such as centralized and decentralized reservoirs in previous studies [16][17][18]20]. The decentralized reservoir upstream of the drainage network reserves the inflow from the drainage network if the water level of the monitoring node is high, and discharges inflow if the water level of the monitoring node is low.…”

“…Therefore, many scholars are committed to flood control by optimizing the operation of pumps. A new technique was created to operate multiple pump stations for reducing urban flood is proposed [5]. A forecasting model was used to predict trends in precipitation and the operation of rainwater pump stations was predicted [6].…”
