Conventional, diffusion, and permeability MR findings in ocular medulloepithelioma

Abstract: Conventional MR findings were similar to previously reported cases. Mean ADCs were moderately high. TICs showed slow increase and presence of wash out. K-trans, AUC, VE, and TME were higher in teratoid variants. Permeability parameters in differential diagnosis with lesions mimicking medulloepithelioma need further investigations.

“…Contrary to retinoblastomas, medulloepitheliomas are most often located in the peripheral retina and do not present calcifications. Intra-tumoral cysts have been shown in 50% of cases [9], and MRI typically reveals a ciliary body mass that is iso-hyperintense to vitreous on T1 and hypointense on T2 [10,11], which would be consistent with our radiologic findings. Moreover, as tumor can extend into the anterior chamber, it can be misdiagnosed as iris xanthogranuloma.…”

“…Medulloepithelioma can be categorized into teratoid and non-teratoid types, each of which can be subclassified as benign or malignant. 9 Regarding the histopathology of our cases, there is the confirmed diagnosis of a malignant medulloepithelioma that was teratoid in 2 out of 3 cases in association with intralesional necrosis and hemorrhages, while one was non-teratoid.…”
