Convection and heat/mass transfer processes under space flight conditions

Abstract: A simulation of 3D convective flows and heat/mass transfer processes under space flight conditions on the basis of hydrodynamic models and a numerical analysis of these models is discussed. The significance of the methods of mechanics in microgravity sciences and the role of the journal "Fluid Dynamics" in the development of this branch of science is examined. The results of recent investigations of certain problems are presented. 3 The title seems to be not quite appropriate since it contains a keyword referr… Show more

“…For a flow subjected to low‐frequency translational vibration, the maximum of the dependence of the concentration nonuniformity on the vibration amplitude and frequency was obtained in Refs. 9 and 23 on the basis of 2D models. Lateral concentration nonuniformities were induced by high‐frequency translational vibration normal to the axis as a function of the amplitude (calculated in a cylinder, performed using a 3D model 18 in the presence of average convection).…”

“…Microconvective phenomena in different systems have been the subject of the detailed investigation in the last few decades (for a review, see [1,2,3,4,5]). The traditional areas of the application of nonisothermal microconvective flows are chemical engineering, materials science, thermophysics.…”

“…It results in the intensive development of space materials science. The aim of the comprehensive study of the processes responsible for the formation of macro and micro inhomogeneities in crystals is to analyze the influence of the dissimilar physical and chemical factors on the convective processes in melts and solutions, which are used for ultra-pure high-quality crystals [3,6]. It is known that under the terrestrial conditions the gravity forces impede obtaining materials which are uniform in the distribution of components and phases.…”
