“…The sedimentary period of the Sha II section was mainly fluvial facies. The continuous dry climate has resulted in mudstone rocks dominated by red and purplish red (Fu et al, 2014; Q. P. Zhang, Liu, et al, 2022; X. J. Zhang, Wu, et al, 2022). The current key exploration and development target of the study area is the fluvial sand body in the Sha II section, which is also the main target layer of this study.…”

“…China’s reliance on foreign natural gas reached 46% in 2021, and the exploration and development approach for natural gas has shifted from conventional to both conventional and unconventional. As the main battlefield of China’s important conventional and unconventional natural gas exploration and development, the Sichuan Basin has achieved significant advancements of shale gas and tight gas resources exploration and development. Especially in recent years, numerous large and medium tight sandstone gas reservoirs have been uncovered in the Middle Jurassic Shaximiao Formation within the Western Sichuan Basin, including Pingluoba, Xinchang, Zhongjiang, and other gas fields. Among these discoveries, the Jinqiu gas field has the largest reserves found within the Shaximiao Formation of the Sichuan Basin, and its cumulative proven reserves were approximately 1000 × 10 8 m 3 by the end of 2021 .…”
