Controlling Vanadate Nanofiber Interlayer via Intercalation with Conducting Polymers: Cathode Material Design for Rechargeable Aqueous Zinc Ion Batteries

Abstract: Aqueous zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) are promising energy storage devices due to the high ionic conductivity of the aqueous electrolyte as well as the safety, eco‐friendliness, and low cost. Vanadium oxide‐based materials are attractive cathode materials for aqueous ZIBs because of their high capacity from their layered structure and multiple valences. However, it is difficult to achieve high cycle stability and rate capability due to the low electrical conductivity and trapping of diffused electrolyte cations wi… Show more

“…The TG curves of NVO and KNVO could be divided into three ranges (Figure d). The first stage (I) is the loss of physically adsorbed water, the second stage (II) is the loss of crystal water and ammonium ions, and the third range (III) is the complete loss of ammonium ions and the process of crystallization . The total weight loss of KNVO and NVO is 5.58 and 7.65%, respectively.…”

“…The thermal decomposition rates reach their maximum values at 73 °C, 339 °C, and 386 °C, respectfully. The first weight loss of ≈8.3% from 34 to 207 °C for purified product corresponded to the evaporation of weakly adsorbed structural water [ 22 ]. The second weight loss of ≈4.9% from 207 to 360 °C was attributed to the decomposition of (NH 4 ) 2 V 6 O 16 ·1.5H 2 O and the third weight loss of ≈3.4% from 360 to 408 °C corresponded to the deintercalation of strongly bound H 2 O via Equation (3) [ 18 , 23 ].…”

“…In general, the semicircular arc is attributed to the charge transfer resistance (R ct ) and the linear tail usually defined as ion diffusion. [27] The equivalent circuit diagram of Mn(VO 3 ) 2 and the fitting R ct value of the 1st, 50th, and 100th cycles are provided in Figure S4 and Table S3. At the beginning, the irreversible Zn 2 + insertion/desertion leads to high R ct (31.52 Ω).…”
