Controlled packing of chiral assembly scaffolds to promote chiral J-aggregation of carbocyanine dyes

Naoya Ryu,

et al.

Abstract: Lysine-derived amphiphile assemblies with moderate tightness of packing served as scaffolds for the chiral J-aggregation of cyanine dyes in water. The induced J-aggregates showed high absorption and emission dissymmetry factors in the order of 10−2.

“…A signicantly large CD signal ([q] 571 = +11.8 × 10 5 deg cm 2 dmol −1 ) was observed around the absorption peak, suggesting that NK-2012 formed chiral Jaggregates through the complexation with G-Py + assemblies. 19,20,24 On the other hand, when NK-2012 was added to the G-Py + /S-PEG 200 -S aqueous mixture, the absorption around 506 nm increased and the signicantly large CD signal with Cotton effect ([q] 498 = +9.66 × 10 5 deg cm 2 dmol −1 , [q] 512 = −15.1 × 10 6 deg cm 2 dmol −1 ) was exhibited at the corresponding wavelength. It is surprising that the addition of S-PEG 200 -S to the G-Py + assembly signicantly affected the chiral orientation structure of the complex-forming dye, even though the change in the CD spectrum of G-Py + is small (shown in Fig.…”
