Controlled multiwavelength operation of diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser at 1318, 1338 and 1356 nm with intracavity etalon

Igor V Smirnov,
Anatoly A Sirotkin

Abstract: Dual- and triple-wavelength diode-side-pumped electro-optically Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1318.8 nm, 1338.2 nm and 1356.4 nm with an intracavity etalon was demonstrated. The spectral composition of the generation was controlled by the rotation of the intracavity YAG etalon with a thickness of 100 µm. The experimental values of the tilt angle of the etalon for the laser generation with dual- and triple-wavelength output correspond well to the calculated values. When pumped by the electrical pulses with an ener… Show more

“…Yb 3+doped crystals have obvious advantages over Nd 3+ -doped * Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. crystals [14][15][16][17][18][19][20], such as having about 4 times the radiation lifetime, the obvious lack of the high excited state to guaranteeing the limited absorptive capacity, and no peaks in absorption for the second-harmonic, which are the more important gain medium [21]. The laser materials doped with Yb 3+ belong to quasi-three-level (QTL), which means that the lower energy levels in the ground state are located [22].…”

“…Coherent THz waves, with a frequency range including frequencies between 100 GHz and 10 THz are promising applications for terahertz communications, detection, imaging systems, and sensing applications [14,15]. For rare-earth doped solid state lasers, the research on the dualwavelength emissions mainly focused on the Nd and Yb doped lasers in the wavelength range from 0.9 to 1.3 µm [16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. However, employing a pump laser in the 2 µm waveband will proportionally increase the quantum efficiency according to the Manley-Rowe relations, which doubles the quantum * Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed.…”
