Controlled manipulation of wetting characteristics of nanoparticles with dry-based plasma polymerization method

Abstract: A dry process for tailoring nanoparticle wetting characteristics using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique is established. The “plasma polymer” coating imparts the properties of the precursors used in the plasma technique, without the requirement for nanoparticle surface preparation. For a range of chosen precursors, the water contact angle of a sessile droplet on coated copper oxide nanoparticles was shown to vary from 54° to 76°, 92° to 108°. Stable suspensions of coated nanoparticles were de… Show more

“…The reversed Christiansen peaks at 2916 cm -1 and 2846 cm -1 are attributed to asymmetrical and symmetrical stretching vibrations of -CH 2 . These peaks are from isopropanol solvent (Shahravan et al 2012) and Parailm™ M substrate. According to Kaufman et al (2011), three bands at 2312 cm -1 , 2345 cm -1 , and 2376 cm -1 are from adsorbed CO 2 surface species.…”

“…As for the cases without sericite, there were no other apparent peaks; however, anatase was observed, indicating that pure TiO 2 samples were obtained for the cases of TiO 2 photocatalysts. The peaks at 2901 cm −1 and 2982 cm −1 both possibly belong to the C-H bonding [29,30] of isopropanol. These two peaks only appeared for the TiO 2 /sericite photocatalysts, indicating that isopropanol has a strong interaction with sericite, possibly via OH groups.…”

“…6(b). [52][53][54] However, the ATR-FTIR for BNNTs aer slicing has other peaks at 3400 cm À1 , 2920-2850 cm À1 , 1100 cm À1 and 1020 cm À1 corresponding to O-H and C-H stretching, C-O stretching (secondary alcohol) and C-H bending modes respectively for IPA 59,60 The Raman spectrum of BNNTs has one peak for the B-N E 2g symmetry mode at 1359.5 cm À1 . 49,50,53,61 Aer processing in the VFD at the optimum conditions, the peak for the B-N E 2g mode is unperturbed, Fig.…”
