Controlled copolymerization of n-butyl acrylate with semifluorinated acrylates by RAFT polymerization

Abstract: A new class of well-controlled semifluorinated copolymers were successfully synthesized via RAFT polymerization. We found that ESI-TOF MS was particularly useful for readily analysing our semifluorinated copolymers. The reactivity ratios of each pair of co-monomers are close to one.

“…However, in the presence of the non‐fluorinated CTA of DBTTC, the relationship between M n of PDFHMA and conversion of DFHMA in scCO 2 was obviously deviated from the linear feature possessed by the living/controlled polymerization. The controllability of DBTTC to the polymerization of DFHMA in scCO 2 was considerably poor, indicating that DBTTC is not an effective CTA to the controlled radical polymerization of the (highly) fluorinated methacrylate monomers in scCO 2 , though it was found to be a good CAT in the RAFT copolymerization of n‐butyl acrylate with some semifluorinated acrylates in DMF …”

Possible reasons are primarily demonstrated as follows.…”

“…), the electrospinning technique distinguishes itself due to its simple devices, and its ability to manufacture one-dimensional nanomaterials with high slenderness ratio. [32][33][34][35] Several kinds of RAFT agents have been appropriately applied to the synthesis of PAN and its copolymers in the presence of azo-initiators. 22 Theoretically, PAN with relatively broad MWDs usually has a wide distribution of hydrodynamic radii and relaxation times of chains in solution.…”
