Controllable Synthesis and Optical Properties of Connected Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Abstract: Connected zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles are successfully synthesized by a simple solution-based chemical route that uses evaporation and concentration technology. The influences of processing parameters, especially the evaporation and concentration time on the size and morphology of the nanoparticles, have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM). The structure and optical properties are systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV/Vis spectrop… Show more

“…The main mechanism of light absorption in pure semiconductors is direct interband electron transitions. The absorption coefficient α has been calculated from the Lamberts formula [62], αMathClass-rel=1tqopnameln)(1T, where T and t are the transmittance (can be directly measured by UV-vis spectra) and path length of the colloids solution (same concentration), respectively. A typical plot of ( α hν) 2 versus photon energy (hν) for the samples are shown in Figure 9b.…”

“…Thus, the antimicrobial activity has been mainly attributable to the dissolved zinc species [ 20 24 ]. The dissolution of ZnO nanoparticles and Zn 2+ release seem to be able to generate radical oxygen species (ROS), consequently, activating a cytotoxic cascade of events that include intracellular calcium flux, mitochondrial depolarization, and plasma membrane leakage [ 25 28 ].…”

“…ZnO NPs were synthesized by using a plain wet chemical route according to our previous study. 34 Typically, a solution of KOH (16.25 mL, 0.35 m in methanol solvent) was added drop by drop into a zinc acetate dehydrate solution (33.5 mL, 0.1 m in methanol solvent) at 60 °C, the above mixture was stirred vigorously at 400 rpm for 3 h.…”
